On Twitter, MB Willard (Weber State) writes: "Is there a good How To Create an Index for Dummies guide out there?" Ah, indexes, the worst part of the book production process! I don't know of any good 'how to guides for dummies' here, but I will say that I found Palgrave's guide helpful when finishing my first book. I'll also say that I think one can make one's index one's own, as it were. Just figure out which terms you think readers are likely to want to look up, and which play an important role in the book, and go from there. My own experience is that it is pretty much that simple. It's just time-consuming!
But these are just my not-super-helpful thoughts. Any book indexers out there have any better tips or guides to recommend?
