Hi everyone. A reader emailed me the following query:
I haven't been reading Philosopher's Cocoon for long…but I was wondering: have you had a
discussion of textbooks? I bring this up because there's a textbook I'm using
for my critical thinking course that has a LOT of problems with it. Part of me
thinks it's my obligation to bring it to the philosophical community's
attention, but the other part of me wonders whether I'd get into trouble with
some textbook company or the author of the textbook or something. What do you
think?
What do you all think? Is this an appropriate issue to discuss here? For my part, I'm not sure. On the one hand, it could be a useful discussion. On the other hand, the issue sounds like it could amount to "crapping" all over someone's book. This is not to suggest that this is the relevant reader's intention, but if that's what the discussion would be, it doesn't seem all that consistent with our blog's aim of being safe and supporting. Given that this is intended to be a community blog (I'm just the owner and main moderator), I thought I'd open up the issue for you all to weigh in on. Thanks!
