I am happy to announce that I will once again by throwing a Philosophers' Cocoon holiday party–"The Non-Smoker"–at this year's Eastern APA. Because I presently plan to be at the APA only until the 29th, I have decided to throw it at at 11pm on the night of the 28th (in other words, during the tail end of the APA's infamous "smoker"/reception). Here are a few relevant details:

  1. Anyone who is a contributor or reader of the Cocoon is invited to attend (provided, of course, the party doesn't get too big–though this hasn't been a problem in past years).
  2. Although in future years I would like to find some way to hold the party in a better venue, the party will once again occur in my hotel room at the conference…which I will post here after check-in.
  3. In part because the party is in a hotel room, I would like to emphasize–following the Cocoon's mission–that the party will be a safe and supportive environment for all attendees (no bad behavior, sleaziness, etc. will ever be permitted at a Cocoon party!).
  4. Although RSVP-ing is by no means required, it would be very helpful if people who do plan to attend either RSVP in the comments section below or by email to me at marvan@ut.edu.
  5. Although contributing to the party is by no means required, because I am attending the APA on my own dime this year, I would be incredibly thankful for small contributions to help pay for snacks and other libations.
  6. It's a great place to "escape from the Smoker" and trade job-market horror stories. 🙂

I guess that's it for now. Am I forgetting anything? (Oh yes, embarrassing Christmas sweaters are highly encouraged!). At any rate, please do consider attending. The party has been a great deal of fun in past years, and a wonderful place to meet members of the community!

First APA with a baby + not staying at the conference hotel = we shall see. On the other hand, I hope to see you at the conference one way or another.

  3. Count me in!

  4. I should be there. I look forward to meeting all of you.

  5. Longtime reader; first time poster and APA attendee–I’d love to come by, if that’s alright.
