For a number of years now, the Smoker has held open job-market threads where people can share information about the academic job-market and otherwise commiserate on issues relating to it (particular jobs, etc.). However, the Smoker now appears to be moribund (with no new posts for the past 5 months), and at least one commenter over there has requested the thread to be hosted elsewhere. Given that the Cocoon focuses on early-career issues (including the job market), is this something readers would like to see hosted here? No worries if not, but I thought I would check!

I for one always appreciated the job-market thread. Especially now that the phylo wiki doesn’t seem to be getting updated very often either.

I think this is a great idea, and I, too, would appreciate an open job market thread here.

Sounds great to me.

So be it then, let it be done! If there are even a few people who want to see it and think it would be helpful, I’m happy to provide the forum. 🙂

It might be helpful if you put a permanent link on the sidebar, up near the Mentoring link.
I’m not on the market, but thanks for doing this, Marcus. It’s a service to others.
