The anonymous reader who wrote in soliciting advice on how to talk about depression to their grad department wrote in with a nice suggestion: that it might be helpful to compile a list of posts at the Cocoon that grad students and grad programs might use as a resource to help improve grad student life and assist grad students navigate their programs successfully. I think it's a great idea, and plan to begin a new series next week: a 'Grad School Toolkit.'
Basically, what I hope to do is devote each initial post in the series to compiling Cocoon posts on different grad-school related topics, including:
- Mental health
- General well-being
- Interpersonal issues
- Dissertations (including Trevor's excellent series)
- Publishing
- Teaching
- Etc.
If any of you can think of specific Cocoon posts that you'd like to see in any of these lists, please do let me know. Finally, I'm hoping to follow the first part of the series (where these lists are compiled) with new posts, ideally submissions by readers on things they think grad students or grad programs could do to improve grad student life and success.
So, please consider giving it some thought yourself: is there anything you think grad students or programs should know? All you have to do is write up a short post (and you can always do it anonymously!), and I will post it in the series for discussion!
