In our new thread soliciting questions on tips for faculty on the tenure-track, the OP asks whether readers have any advice for tenure-track faculty who are parents, particularly single parents. I'm not a parent, so I don't have any tips to share. But as a tenured faculty member who is considering having children, I wonder a lot about how I would balance everything and be a good parent and spouse given my workload. And, of course, I expect that the particular stresses and workload of a TT job (e.g. 'publish or perish', etc.) can pose real challenges for parents, particularly (but not only) single parents.
So, I think it would be great to hear from readers with some experience here. If you do have experience as a faculty member who is also a parent–particularly (but not only) if you had children while on the tenure-track–please feel free to share any tips or experiences that you think other readers might find helpful!
