In our new “how can we help you?” thread, a reader writes:
I have seen more job applications with short turnaround times this year than in any year I can remember (been on the market since 2019).
We’ve seen a ton that barley give candidates a month; one was posted today that gives candidates less than 3 weeks. In the past, I would’ve assumed this always meant that these were inside hires, but maybe this year department’s just got approvals really late and that is no longer a good assumption? Idk!
What else explains posting a job with a very short window of application? I would appreciate replies from anyone who has experience on a hiring committee (including Marcus!)
Good questions! Does anyone have insights to share?
