The MLA's Job Information list reports, "In 2014–15, of the 884 ads in the English JIL [Jobs Information List], 595 (67.3%) were tagged as advertising tenure-track positions." For comparison, a couple of quick searches at philjobs reveals that of the (only) 572 philosophy jobs advertised in 2015, only 219 (or 38.3%) of jobs advertised are on the tenure-track. Yikes.

UPDATE/note: The MLA report also states, rather confusingly, that there were "1,015 jobs in the English edition for 2014–15." Although this figure has been reported at InsideHigherEd as "1,015 jobs in English", as far as I can tell (though I may be wrong) this is incorrect reporting: the 1,015 figure appears to me to be the number of jobs listed in English language version of the Jobs Information List (which also includes jobs in foreign languages). The total number of jobs in the academic discipline of English in the JIL for 2014-15 appears, from the report, to be the 884 figure listed above.
