This is just a quick announcement that as of today, the Cocoon's Job-Market Mentoring Program has merged for this job-season with the Job-Market Mentoring Program for Women in Philosophy. Women candidates (and mentors!) are thus encouraged to sign up for the Cocoon's mentoring program via this link. Helen De Cruz and I plan to pair as many applicants of all backgrounds with mentors as possible in the days to come. Hopefully, our recent call for mentors will help us find suitable matches for applicants we have not been able to match thus far! Many thanks to Corinne A. Gartner (Wellesley College), who will serve as an additional contact this season, and the rest of the Mentoring Program for Women's board for making this merger happen.

I signed up but did not receive any confirmation mail. Is it normal?

Yes, we do not send out confirmation emails. However, if applicants contact us, we are always happy to confirm that application was received. Sometimes matching mentors and mentees takes a bit, because we often have to wait for more signups to find appropriate matches. Rest assured, though, that we are working very hard on them. Our recent call for mentors has helped us make a bunch of matches recently, and we are hoping to make a bunch more in coming days, as I know the market is fast upon us!

Wouldn’t it be fairly simple to set-up an automatic confirmation email? I got one with the women in philosophy mentorship last year. It was clearly an automatic form letter, but it confirmed I was registered and thanked me for signing up. It is frustrating to sign up and not know if it went through. (And personally, it makes me feel as though my efforts are not acknowledged and respected. Unreasonable? Maybe. But I think it is a common reaction.) And yes, you can email and ask, but wouldn’t it be easier to have this happen automatically? Lots of people don’t email and ask because it is awkward, and you don’t want to feel as if you are bothering someone.
