In our newest "how can we help you?" thread, a reader asks:

I'm sure that this has been mentioned a million times, but I love teaching from cases in my ethics classes. The National Ethics Bowl through APPE is a pretty great resource. But I'd really love to hear if people have other resources or collections of cases like these which we might use in an ethics class!

Great query - share away!

Baylor put together a Bioethics Bowl that is pretty neat. (The case set for last year is on their website.) The Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University is also a great resource for cases and teaching materials.

    Answering as an Ethics Bowler:
OP mentions the APPE-IEB (intercollegiate ethics bowl), so I just want to make sure that folks are aware of the extensive NHSEB (high school ethics bowl) case library made available by UNC (nhseb.org/case-library). The NHSEB has made all cases freely available online since the inception of the program.
In addition, the Parr Center for Ethics at UNC has been producing ethical dilemma videos with accompanying lesson plans and questions attached to each video: go.unc.edu/ethics-modules
I also make ample use of the NYT Ethicist column for everyday dilemmas and cases: http://www.nytimes.com/column/the-ethicist

  3. Thanks for the Baylor shout out! Every year, the National Bioethics Bowl puts together a case packet and so if you do a search of NBB and the year (e.g. “National Bioethics Bowl 2023”) you should find a site with 12-15 cases from that competition.
My colleague Devan Stahl also runs a podcast called Bioethics For the People with fascinating real-life cases. I know at least one philosopher who has organized a course around the podcast with great success.

There’s Ethics Unwrapped at U Texas Austin.
If you’re not averse to Reddit, you might check out “AITA”.

  5. Case studies

All the resources mentioned above are my go-to (Ethics Unwrapped, Markkula Center). For engineering and technology topics, I also recommend:
    https://onlineethics.org/
    https://computing.mit.edu/cross-cutting/social-and-ethical-responsibilities-of-computing/serc-cases-studies/
I also like articles on the Union of Concerned Scientists website, which can be easily turned into case studies:https://www.ucs.org/
Finally, websites of professional organizations also usually have repository of cases, so you can search those based on the area of interest.
